Greetings!

Thank you for visiting my site. My hope is, as you scroll through these pages, you'll discover a glimpse of who I am, what I'm passionate about and most importantly what I love to create and collaborate on! While I have a wonderfully fulfilling and busy full time career job with Nearest Green Distillery, I still avail myself to opportunities that God may place before me. My Story

Malcolm K. Darrell is a Creative Director, Producer, Consultant, Curator and a Creative Strategist.  

Malcolm has over 25-years of expertise in developing and producing, live and immersive entertainment experiences from Los Angeles to New York. He holds a BA from U.C. Berkeley and an MFA from Yale University.

Malcolm has worked in arts & culture organizations across the country including, Cal Performances (Berkeley, CA), The New  Victory Theatre (New York, NY), Cornerstone Theatre Company (Los Angeles, CA), The Association of Performing  Arts Professionals (APAP), The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts (both in Washington, DC) and Yale  Repertory Theatre (New Haven, Connecticut). In 2007, he received the Foundry Theatre’s Inaugural Producer’s Chair Award and co-produced the critically acclaimed original play The Brothers Size, by Academy Award winner Tarell Alvin McCraney, at The Public Theater’s Under the Radar Festival. In the fall of 2007, Malcolm became the  founding General Manager of Ebony Repertory Theatre, Los Angeles’ first African American Equity theatre  company. In 2011-2013 he Associate Produced and helped launch the highly successful RADAR L.A., an International  Festival of Contemporary Theater focusing on work from the West Coast and Pacific Rim. In 2012, Malcolm was  named a Nathan Cummings Young Leader of Color by the Theatre Communications Group and became 1 of  3 inaugural recipients of the British Council and the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs’ Cultural Exchange International Fellowship. As a passionate traveler and culture enthusiast, he traveled to the United Kingdom for 3-weeks as a cultural  ambassador of the USA.

 

From 2010-14 he was a member of the artistic staff of Center Theatre Group(CTG) and became Founder & Principal of MKD Arts Management- a full-service boutique management company. Malcolm has hosted and produced Culture Connection (an arts & culture podcast), been a grant award panelist for Theatre Communications Group Fox Fellowship, CTG’s Sherwood  Award, National Alliance for Musical Theatre’s Frank Young Panel for New Musicals and served as a board trustee and co-chair of the  Committee on Diversity, Inclusivity and Equity (CODIE) for the Village School. Recently, he managed the Live Entertainment Advanced Development Studio for Disney Live Entertainment, Walt Disney Imagineering. In this role he was a creative director, strategist and thought leader, researching, developing and experimenting with new aesthetics, talent and technology for Disney Parks globally.

In 2022 he consulted on live experiences and events for Airbnb and was a cohort member of the Future of StoryTelling(FoST)’s Explorers Club.  Currently he is the Director of Experiences at Nearest Green Distillery, home of The Most Awarded American Whiskey or Bourbon 2019, 2020, 2021 & 2022- Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey. Malcolm lives in Tennessee with his wife and children, is a firm believer in the power of faith and is a lover of all things butter, sugar and cinnamon!
